Use and Wear

Do’s and Don’ts so your bling don’t bust.

Fashion and costume jewellery is very different from all other types especially fine jewellery which is generally made of gold or silver.  The treatment and care can be similar, but on the most part, are quite different.  Follow these super handy steps to insure your costume and fashion jewellery is kept in tip top shape, just like Kim K’s rear, and you too will achieve a long lasting impression.

  1. Costume and Fashion Jewellery should never be worn in water, like never everrrrr! No pools, spa’s, showers and certainly not the beach. Ok, maybe for a quick Instagram pic but then take those babies off and seal in an airtight bag.  I also advise to remove rings when washing your hands or doing the dishes, keep the earrings on of course. You want to look glamorous when doing dishes.

If you by chance get your jewellery wet, dry it immediately with a soft cloth and preferably a                          microfibre as it has no pile – that’s fluffy bits.

  1. Be careful with your costume and fashion jewellery. It does not travel or wear as well as fine jewellery made of gold and silver.  If you drop it, it will break, if you fall over when wearing it, it may look like your knees, so treat it with love and tenderness.  Always remember to either remove your necklace for car travel or pop it over the top of your seatbelt so that sudden breaking from the responsible driver is not responsible for any damage to your necklace.

  1. At the end of your day or night, don’t just drop those gorgeous ladies into your handbag or in a draw. Lay them down to rest after a sweet little wipe over with a microfibre cloth. If you have little pouches or organza bags, then pop smaller pieces into them to avoid the metals and gems from getting fresh and rubbing up against each other. No one needs to see that!

  1. Finally, and the MOST IMPORTANT bit of info I can give you is this, “last on, first off”. This should be your jewellery motto.  ANY jewellery should be the very last thing you put on before you walk out the door, and shoes…shoes are also good to put on.  Hairspray, perfumes, tans and body lotions are DEADLY to costume and jewellery due to the metals used to make them and the plating.  Don’t be responsible for killing your favourite necklace because you doused it in your fav perfume. Save its life by following that little ditty and you will thank me for it.
